My New Favorite Forms Of Self Care
“When you recover or discover something that nourishes your soul and brings you joy, care enough about yourself to make room for it in your life.”
-Jean Shinoda Bolen
Your to do list seems miles long, your calendar is jam packed, and work is beyond overwhelming. When we’re stressed, whether its because of work or our personal lives, we often neglect self care. I am just as guilty as anyone else of neglecting to prioritize self care, but recently I have been focused on taking care of myself and I have never felt better and more productive. I wanted to share my two new favorite self care services that have helped me feel my best: Peak Performance Float and US Cryotherapy.
Float therapy at Peak Performance Float in Walnut Creek has become one of my favorite new ways to relax after a strenuous work day. It feels so supportive and is a great way to let your brain finally relax. In addition to it being meditative, I have never slept better and I love how energetic I feel afterwards.
Float pods and float rooms both contain 1,200 pounds of Epsom salt water solution! Floating is a great way to get magnesium into you system and magnesium is responsible for 300 biochemical reactions in the body! It helps to maintain normal nerve and muscle function, supports a healthy immune system, helps with anxiety and stress, keeps the heart beat steady, and helps bones remain strong. It also helps regulate blood glucose levels and aid in the production of energy and protein.

Another self care method I can’t live without now is cryotherapy from US Cryotherapy in Walnut Creek. The whole body cryotherapy utilizes subzero temperatures that stimulates a release of endorphins and enhances circulation. This helps to reduce inflammation and clears toxins from the body.
I have had bursitis pain in my hip this past year and it FINALLY went away after my first cryotherapy session. Since then I’ve been hooked. I go regularly and find that if I go longer than 10 days that my hip pain returns. I also love how I feel when I am doing cryotherapy. The brain releases Norepinephrine – a “feel good” hormone that many users experience as increased alertness immediately after a session. A cryotherapy session brings more blood flow to your brain and more oxygen along with it. This allows for the production of brain derived neurotrophic factor, (BDNF) which helps protect neurons as well as assists in the creation of new neuronal connections.
I recommend US Cryotherapy over other locations because they do not use nitrogen in the tanks. Also you can go in the chambers with friends. Check out McKenna and me about to go in together in the photo above. They offer a variety of other services that rejuvenate your mind and body from hydromassage, infared sauna, red light facials, and more. Whether you’re suffering from stiff muscles, joint pain, inflammation, or just looking for a way to relax, US Cryotherapy has services that’ll suit your self care needs.
