NAD IV Drip Therapy – Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide
One of the coolest and least-known IV drips we do at Cambiati Wellness is NAD+. NAD+ stands for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. It’s is not just a tongue twister; it’s a coenzyme and cofactor that’s necessary for many biological reactions in the body. It’s a compound found in every cell in our body, and is essential of maintaining healthy cell and tissues.
With age, this compound decreases (like so many other things), due to a number of factors like cognitive decline, natural loss of muscle mass, and metabolic changes and diseases. When we restore NAD+ levels, many of these concerns and even diseases may be delayed and possibly even reversed.
This is one of the reasons NAD+ has been touted as an anti-aging miracle. It can help your skin, hair and nails feel stronger and look healthier, but more importantly it does some incredible internal work. NAD works in the brain cells to protect myelin sheaths, which support communication between brain cells. There are theories that support it could even act like a neurotransmitter in the brain, which means getting an NAD+ drip could help lift brain fog and help you focus and think more clearly. In that same vein, it boosts serotonin levels, and many people report feeling an uplifted mood after receiving their IVs.
Speaking of veins, there is something called vascular aging, when veins actually start to die off, limiting the blood flow throughout our bodies as we get older. This is combatted with NAD+, so that your skin is getting more blood and looks plumper and healthier, and your muscles maintain their strength rather than weakening with restricted blood flow and getting fewer signals from blood vessels, due to less NAD+.
One of the most exciting things about restoring NAD+ levels is that they can prevent damage and perhaps even repair mutations in our DNA. As we age, there are more genetic mutations and errors that can take place, and NAD+ can support a reduction in these mutant mistakes, and even assists mitochondria with folding their proteins properly (like DNA laundry, can you picture it? So cute!).
Aging disrupts the normal process of turning DNA into proteins. More mutations and errors occur the older you get, and some researchers are beginning to suspect this is due to age-related declines in NAD+ levels.
Indeed, NAD+ regulates proteins responsible for preventing damage to and repairing DNA. What’s more, NAD+ assists the mitochondria with folding proteins into their proper shapes.
Here’s the secret about DNA repair: faulty repair mechanisms are correlated with tumorigenesis and cell death. That means frequent NAD+ IV therapies can help reduce your risk of cancer and promote cell survival.
One of the most well-studied benefits of NAD+ is its influence over metabolism. Metabolism is the process of turning food into ATP, which your cells use as energy.
NAD+ assists with the production of ATP, meaning your body has more energy to use up. It also helps speed up reactions during metabolism. That way, you’re using food more efficiently.
What does this mean for weight loss, you may wonder?
You’ve probably heard that the higher your metabolism, the faster you burn the calories you eat. It’s true, and frequent NAD+ IV therapies can help keep metabolism running efficiently. The more efficient your metabolism is, the better your body will be at converting food into energy instead of fat.
People undergoing substance abuse treatment have to suffer through the awful side effects of their medication. That’s why it’s so exciting that NAD+ reduces withdrawal symptoms and drug cravings in people recovering from addiction.
Even better? NAD+ can help repair nerves and other cells damaged throughout the addiction. That way, both the brain and body can recover.
Does NAD+ have anti-aging benefits?
According to a, “Long-Term Administration of Nicotinamide Mononucleotide” study, stimulating NAD+ metabolism with NMN or nicotinamide riboside extends healthspan and mitigates premature aging diseases in mice. Long-term (12 months) administration of NMN suppresses age-associated weight gain, enhances energy metabolism, improves insulin sensitivity and prevents age-linked changes in gene expression1. Following treatment, the metabolism and energy levels of older mice resemble those of younger mice.
In a 2017 NAD+ Harvard study, scientists subjected two-year-old mice cells to NAD+ therapy. After therapy, the cells resembled those of six-month-old mice. In terms of human years, this would be the equivalent of sixty-year-old cells resembling twenty-year-old cells. This experiment demonstrates the potential anti-aging power of NAD+.
What does this mean for energy?
Remember how we talked about metabolism and its relation to weight loss? Then you may recall that the product of metabolism is ATP, which the body’s cells use as energy.
This also translates to your energy levels overall. The more efficiently your metabolism is running, the more energy you have on hand for daily activities.
If you struggle with a mid-day crash that even coffee can’t help, it’s about time you headed to get your NAD+ IV drip at Cambiati Wellness.
Why do an IV with NAD+ rather than just a supplement?
Most of the best research is on injectable NAD+, and not oral supplementation. In an IV you can also add higher dose synergistic vitamins like B3. Also, lots of people don’t have ideal digestion in which case a liposomal product like NMN or an IV is the perfect way to bypass the digestive system and get in NAD+ at a high dose. This makes it significantly more effective. That is one of the reasons why in lots of studies oral NAD+ supplementation is ineffective. We do recommend supplements for NAD+ to do in between NAD+ IV drip therapy sessions but none of them will compare to getting an IV drip. In addition to getting more NAD+ into the body, you are also getting lots of fluids to help hydrate you.
Some fantastic supplements for increasing NAD+ from Designs for Health which are great for support in between IV drips like:
- Liposomal NMN Synergy™ is a potent formula containing 50 mg of nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) and 50 mg of trimethylglycine (TMG) per serving to support healthy aging and cellular function.*
- Mito-NR is a form of nicotinamide riboside chloride and resveratrol and pterostilbene for optimal cellular health and repair.*
- CellGuard-NR which features nicotinamide riboside chloride, GG Gold for CoQ10 synthesis, and synergistic compounds to support mitochondrial function and cellular health.*
